Luca de Bortoli · Bologna, Italy

Designer for complex systems.

I help teams design enterprise products through research, information architecture and design systems. When the work needs a tool, I build it.

Designing a system for a complex ecosystem.

A verifiable design system for a luxury maison: from approved screens to shared components, semantic tokens and a reliable handoff.

Design System

A shared language, from design to implementation.

Conceptual illustration of the system. Figures from the case study.
My contribution
I translated 13 approved screens into the token architecture, component library and automated verification scripts.
Results and scope
A file-wide audit caught raw colours in 35 icon masters: a defect invisible by eye that propagated to their instances.

Projects / CBDC · UX Research

Research across a multi-year payment program.

Research for a central bank digital currency app: connecting interviews, usability tests and multi-market surveys at sprint pace.

Conceptual map of the research workflow; no client findings are shown.
My contribution
As research lead within a wider design, product and client team, I designed the methodology, moderated tests and built recruiting, coding and reporting workflows.
Results and scope
Three automations in daily use support recruiting, first-pass coding and survey reporting. Research design, review and interpretation remain manual.

Tools

Tools I build for research and information architecture.

qlaude

I designed and built qlaude around one rule: AI proposes interpretations; the researcher reviews, edits and decides.

Method

From the right questions to things that work.

01

Understand

I start from people, context and real needs. Qualitative research, observation and analysis reveal what really matters.

Research · Observation · Analysis

02

Structure

I turn complexity into clear structures: information architectures, ecosystems and platforms that make sense.

Models · Taxonomies · Architecture

03

Make

I design interfaces, design systems and tools that help people and teams act with confidence.

Prototypes · Systems · Tools

A working loop, not a rigid sequence. Making reveals new questions; research changes the structure.

About

A design practice shaped by research and code.

I started in front-end development and studied semiotics. Today I use both to understand how people work and turn that understanding into interfaces, components and research tools.

My approach
  • Interdisciplinary background

  • Systems thinking

    From parts to patterns

  • Practical mindset

    Ideas into tools

  • Tools & craft

    Better ways to make decisions
